Originating from both Scotland and West Africa, fried chicken has become a staple in American cuisine and is commonly found in dishes around the world. Though West Africans had traditions of seasoning chicken that was fried in palm oil, the Scottish were the first to deep fry chicken in fat.

Prior to the Second World War, fried chicken was considered an upscale dish that was very expensive and only enjoyed on special occasions. When the soldiers returned home from war, they were disheartened by what they had experienced and sought to make the world a better place. After realizing that fried chicken might be the remedy they sought, former soldiers took to mass producing fried chicken, thus bringing the price down so that everyone could enjoy it.

Today, with fried chicken affordable and abundant, the world is indeed a better place.
