Fruit Spread is a Side Dish in Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!!.
Description[ | ]
With the advent of color films, production designers were faced with the challenge of decorating scenes with lovingly saturated colors. Suddenly, actors could no longer eat mashed potatoes, as the dull color palette was deemed unappealing to audiences. In an attempt to solve this problem, award winning production designer Mary Mole traveled to her local grocer, where she was confident she'd be able to find a piece of bright, multicolored fruit. She couldn't, and with the film shoot drawing near, Mole was forced to improvise by creating a spread of different colored fruits.
To Mole's delight, the fruit spread was a huge success, and with the explosion of color films in the 1950s, families were keen to recreate the fruit spreads featured in their favorite movies.
Today, some analysts believe the increased sale of fruit played a large role in the post war boom enjoyed throughout the West.
